The options available to today’s muzzleloading enthusiast are broad and plentiful. Thompson Center, CVA, Traditions, and Knight are the big players in the market today with offerings coming from some other manufacturers catering to niche markets. From price points ranging from just under $200 to over the price of a used Toyota Camry, there’s a muzzleloader to fit anyone’s budget.
Long known as a budget brand and plagued by bad press from a recall in the 90’s, CVA is providing some solid competition by not only being more gun for the money, but now “Just a Better Gun”. CVA’s parent company, BPI, also owns Bergara Barrels which makes some of the finest production barrels on the market. This alone makes CVA a fierce competitor in the accuracy department. CVA models include the Accura MR, Accura V2, Apex, Optima, Wolf, Buckhorn 209, and the Elkorn. New for 2012 is the Accura MR, short for “Mountain Rifle”. See below for an overview of each model.
